About us
I just asked one of our vet techs, “What makes working here different from any other vet clinic?”
“The team,” she said, like it was obvious. I mean, duh!
Our Story…
- Family Business! All four of the McCarthys work together to oversee three hospitals in southeast Michigan. We couldn’t do it without a stellar management team and extraordinary staff.
- Thorough! We don’t cut corners when it comes to patient care. If you like good medicine, good outcomes, and happy clients, you’ll like it here.
- Cutting-edge! We use innovative technology to bring experienced vets and techs from around the country together to mentor/collaborate. We use AI to help with lab tests and imaging.
- Super friendly! Positive vibes, can-do attitudes, and a small team that has your back. A larger team is available remotely when needed for issues and questions.
- Teamwork! Everybody helps everybody around here.
- Beautiful Facility. We put a lot of thought into creating the best atmosphere for patients, clients, and the team.
- Addicted to learning. Staying ahead of the curve in the ever-changing world of vetmed.
- Allergic to bullies. We protect our team and do not tolerate disrespectful clients.
- Balanced! We have lives. Nuff said.
This is a long one but it’s worth it:
“When reading my review please keep in mind that I am a vet tech working at a specialty practice, and this was my first time EVER not working general medicine and looking for a reg vet for my two cats. This was a massive stressor for me as I have never not been an active part of my pets care. And unfortunately even I know that while there are many who genuinely have a passion for this field and a passion to provide the best care possible there are also a lot of burnt out techs/doctors.
Well turns out there was no need to worry because the way they run their appointments made it feel like I had found a team of people who were kind, willing to listen, and ready to partner with me on my catβs health. Despite working in this field when it comes to my own pets health I have a lot of worries as any other owner would. I was worried I was rambling too much but they made me feel like they had the time to give. I was worried my pets might be pushed too far but they showed clear knowledge of what real fear free looks like in practice. Itβs a clean, open, stress free (as much as it can be) space for your pets.
The staff seem like they genuinely enjoy working there. I feel like I hit the lotto in finding a reg vet first try that I could see continuing care with for the remainder of my pets lives. Special shout outs to Deanna their remote tech who spent 30 minutes on the phone with me getting my pets scheduled and discussing our shared passion for this field, to Jeannie for the warm welcome. To Tiana for taking her time with not only my pets but also with me. To doctor Myers and Dougan for taking their time in the exam room, reviewing things with me they could have very well passed off to the tech to discuss, for going slow with my cats and respecting their boundaries, for sending me articles to learn more on my pets health issues despite not being asked.
This is veterinary medicine at its FINEST . This is our field advancing into a higher standard of care and Shelter Bay is 100% paving the way. Cannot say enough good things and am genuinely excited to bring my cat in for her sedated xrays because I know I found her top notch care.”

Our location
We are still floating on cloud nine from getting to design our vet clinic from the ground up! We worked with architects, builders, veterinarians, front desk people, vet techs, family, and friends – to devise the most welcoming, modern, and functional space possible. We don’t mind getting compliments on our facility’s presentation and presence all the time! We use the fancy stuff to clean, so we don’t smell like your average clinic! We are in a pretty large building, so we have plenty of room to grow!
Since we opened in January, it’s been a delight getting to know the clientele. Novi, MI, is really a mixed bag of diverse and interesting people. We are never bored, that’s for sure! Located conveniently at the crossroads of two major freeways, it’s convenient to get to, as well. We all know commute matters!

Our offer
We are offering an hourly rate of $16 – 21 to start, depending on experience, responsibilities, and aspirations. We work four days a week, plus a half day every other Saturday. We offer benefits like paid time off, health insurance, employee discount (50%!), Simple IRA with a match, CE, licensing coverage, uniform stipend, and more! Our benefits add about $3.75 to your hourly wage, depending on how much you utilize the employee discount. So that’s gives this position a $19.75-$24.75 hourly value.
