About us
The Rockbridge SPCA, a nonprofit organization, is seeking a part- or full-time Lead Veterinarian to start as early as October 2025 with the clinic opening in early 2026. This individual will provide insight and assistance in setting up and managing a new spay/neuter clinic. The applicant will do sterilization surgeries and routine wellness exams for both the public and shelter animals.
With modifications, new construction, and renovations to the organization’s former rental property, a state-of-the-art spay and neuter clinic will be created. The purpose of the clinic is to provide low-cost spay and neuter surgeries and wellness visits, serving at least 5,000 pets per year.

About this role
- Lead and mentor the veterinary team while upholding medical standards.
- Setting up, placing orders, developing and implementing medical protocols, including the overall general setup of a new state-of-the-art spay and neuter clinic.
- Perform routine health exams and sterilization, euthanasia when needed of canines and felines.
- Maintain all forms, reports, animal records, and any health department reports.
- Assist in developing, researching, and recommending clinical needs.
- Ensure clinic meets Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine laws and regulations and is required to stay abreast of any updates, changes, and/or requirements.
- Participate in a minimum of two SPCA fundraisers yearly.

About you
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university.
- Current DEA license or obtained upon hire.
- Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of Virginia. Active Veterinary State license upon hire.
- Must be comfortable, quick, and proficient with sterilization procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- At least 2 years practicing veterinary medicine in a clinic setting.
- Good understanding of animal behavior, husbandry, and basic safety.
- The ability to make decisions and communicate clearly and effectively with fellow team members, and assist with the hiring of licensed Vet Technicians and other assistants.
- A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics.

Our location
The clinic is secluded on a peaceful, quiet, wooded section of property at the Rockbridge SPCA. It will feature a beautiful lobby, exam room, large prep area, recovery area, loading dock and large surgery room. It’s just 5 minutes from downtown Lexington and 2 minutes from Lee Highway and Interstates 81 and 64. The clinic and shelter are within walking distance of each other.

Our offer
Salary:
- $105 – 118k, full-time
