About us
VEG was founded in 2014 with a clear conviction: emergency veterinary medicine deserved better. Better for the pets and people walking through the door at their most vulnerable, and better for the professionals delivering that care. What started as a single hospital has grown into a nationwide network of 24/7 emergency facilities, each built around an open-concept floor plan designed to keep communication flowing and collaboration constant.
But the real story here isn’t the growth, it’s the intent behind it. VEG’s leadership set out to dismantle the traditional ER hierarchy and replace it with something more human. The result is a culture where veterinarians are trusted to lead on the floor, where mentorship isn’t a line item on a careers page but something that happens in real time between cases, and where the team genuinely has your back when the shift gets heavy. You’ll hear the team referred to as “VEGgies,” and while the name is playful, the commitment behind it is serious: this is an organization that made the well-being and professional trajectory of its people a structural priority, not an afterthought.
I attended VEG Etobicoke grand opening today and wow, what an incredible facility! Large, clean, open space animal hospital with warm vibes. All of the staff were incredibly upbeat and welcoming. You don’t see 24 hour emergency veterinarians clinics like this in Toronto! – Jason F – Google Review
About this role
This is emergency medicine the way it should feel. You’ll be the clinical leader on the floor, managing everything from the first phone call through triage, diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical intervention. The caseload is broad and genuinely stimulating, spanning routine emergencies through to complex soft-tissue surgeries, endoscopic procedures, and exotic presentations.
What makes this role different is the system around you. VEG’s triage model is designed so patients see a doctor immediately, removing the bottleneck that causes so much frustration in traditional ERs. You’ll have the diagnostic tools to move quickly and confidently, and the team support to focus on what you do best.
- Immediate Clinical Impact: Assess, diagnose, and treat a diverse emergency caseload from the moment you step onto the floor.
- Surgical Autonomy: Perform both minor and major emergency surgeries, including soft-tissue and endoscopic procedures, with real confidence in your support system.
- Client Communication: Guide pet owners through diagnosis and treatment options with empathy and clarity, turning high-stress moments into trust.
- Collaborative Diagnosis: Leverage advanced imaging, bloodwork, and investigative tools within a team that values shared clinical thinking.
About you
You’re a veterinarian who finds genuine fulfillment in the intensity and unpredictability of emergency medicine. You don’t just tolerate the pace, you’re energized by it. You bring strong surgical hands (particularly in soft-tissue and endoscopy), sharp diagnostic instincts, and the kind of calm, clear communication that reassures clients in their most anxious moments.
Beyond the clinical skill set, you’re someone who lifts the people around you. You contribute to the culture as much as the caseload. You’re curious, open to learning, and comfortable both leading and leaning on your team when the situation calls for it.
Requirements:
- DVM degree (or equivalent)
- Licensed by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario
- Confidence in emergency surgery, with a particular interest in soft-tissue and endoscopy
- Comfort working a rotating schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 kg independently

- Competitive Base Salary with bonus potential
- Company RRSP Matching Program
