Longmont Humane Society believes that it is our responsibility to safeguard the physical and behavioral well-being of the animals in our care as well as in our community.
Longmont Humane Society is a 501(c)3 private, non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals with a mission of caring, serving and educating to improve the lives of companion animals.
We provide temporary shelter to thousands of animals every year. Dogs, cats and small mammals that are lost, surrendered or abandoned will receive loving attention, nutritious food, meticulous health care and daily exercise during their stay at our facility.

About this role
The Veterinarian serves as the medical leader of the practice, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that results in excellent treatment experiences for the patients and clients we serve, as well as an excellent employment experience for the practice’s patient care team.
The Veterinarian works with the LHVC team to help ensure that quality and appropriate veterinary medicine is performed within the practice. Additionally, they partner with the Practice Manager in matters of general management, staffing/scheduling, as well as ensuring that operational and financial goals are met.
This position provides a great opportunity to care for our community while serving and assisting in a shelter environment. Our clinic shares its space with our shelter healthcare team, complementing our mission and setting up a cohesive, team environment. Our focus is on our shelter companion animals, while also providing quality care to the community.
Schedule
This position offers a flexible schedule. While we currently operate Monday through Friday, there is a possibility of adding Saturday appointments, and assisting with shelter animal emergencies as well. The schedule will be either Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday for the full-time veterinarian.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Good attendance is required.
- Provides medical care for publicly owned animals.
- Provides follow-up on all medical and surgical conditions/complications.
- Provides client communication and support.
- Stays up to date on the latest medical interventions and products.
- Works with the Practice Manager to optimize scheduling of doctors and technicians/assistants.
- Works with the Practice Manager to evaluate and make recommendations for staff development.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a veterinary clinic setting is preferred
- Current, active State of Colorado veterinary license, with no disciplinary actions pending.
- Current, active DEA license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication.
- Ability to use a PC and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word), and ability to learn new software, as necessary. This clinic currently uses eVet.
- Ability to meet deadlines; ability to set and accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.
- Knowledge of medical care for exotics is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Office and veterinary clinic environment with frequent standing, crouching, bending
- Potential exposure to high noise levels and zoonotic diseases.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches.

FLSA Status: Full-time or Part-time, Non-Exempt (hourly)
Pay Range: $55.00 – $60.00 per hour
