About us
This is one of those opportunities that does not come around very often, so check us out!
Rio Grande Animal Hospital has been a part of the Albuquerque North Valley community for over 50 years. This means we are not just a business here; we are actually part of the fabric of this neighborhood. We have served generations of clients and have remained independent for all those years.
Now we find ourselves in the position of needing a vision for the next 50 years. A doctor (or two) with great medical skills would be a perfect addition. And if you have aspirations of management or ownership, we can make that happen. Imagine being your own boss in one of the oldest and most beloved veterinary care facilities in the city.
This is a cool local hospital that builds relationships with our clientele. Most of our clients are long-term (even multi-generational) and want to build a long term relationship with their veterinarian. They like to talk, they want to learn, and appreciate the stability. Someone to count on and be honest yet compassionate. That’s why I love working in this small and personable hospital! -Jackie, Lead Technician
About this role
Full-time Associate Veterinarian with possible management and/or ownership potential
Rio Grande Animal Hospital thrives with doctors that practice high-end medicine and can discuss our pet’s health on a personal level.
Our standards are high but we also offer alternatives that most can be comfortable with.
All the skills that make a general practitioner so beloved are what we are looking for:
- Intuitive, creative medical interpretation is a must – we refer when we need, but our clients like to have their doctor handle most cases in-house.
- Good general surgical skills – soft tissue mostly. Orthopaedic experience a plus.
- Experience with COHAT care under anesthesia.
- And the biggest thing – being a great team member with a small but wonderful staff.
About you
In this 2-3 doctor practice, a lot of time is spent with people at work. So we all need to know how to respect our strengths but even more, love our differences.
A doctor who can lead a team through patient care yet make everyone feel appreciated.
We know that’s not as simple as it sounds, that’s why this position may not be for everyone. But the right person will realize all Rio Grande Animal Hospital can offer.
Our location
Located in the heart of the North Valley, Rio Grande Animal Hospital is unique in it’s location and longevity. We really are part of the fabric of this wonderful section of town.
And if you are not familiar with Albuquerque, there really is nothing like it:
- A small town in many ways, but growing up in the beautiful Southwest!
- Full of more outdoor sports and activities than there will ever be time for, knockout cuisine and a booming brewhouse/distillery scene (if you like that stuff).
- Very few places can offer this quality of life at a reasonable cost of living.
Our offer
- $140,000 to $160,000 per year
- The ideal candidate would have a 4-day work week, no after hours or emergencies.
- Occasional Saturday 1/2 day hours.
- Full set off benefits includes generous PTO (vacation and/or sick time), $2500 CE allowance PLUS paid time off for CE learning.
- Full health benefits, 401K opportunities, some licenses and dues paid for, DEA license paid and VIN membership.
If you have other needs let us know!
We generally recommend a straight salary for the first 6 months or so, get used to what the caseload is. Then if you want, we can discuss a base + production (ProSal) style pay if you want. Compensation for management time is also available.
