About us
Alta Vista Animal Hospital is a busy, growing multidisciplinary hospital serving Ottawa and a substantial regional referral community. From our 24,500 square foot facility, we bring together specialty medicine, a permanent 24-hour emergency service and general practice within one collaborative clinical environment.
Our specialty team includes six experienced specialists across Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Cardiology, Oncology and Ophthalmology. More than 300 general practice and emergency hospitals refer patients to us, creating a challenging and varied caseload supported by strong relationships across the veterinary community.
You will work alongside veterinarians who value collaboration, shared thinking and mutual professional support. Our hospital also offers an extensive diagnostic imaging suite, including 64-slice CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy and digital radiography.
As part of VCA Canada, we combine the relationships and clinical identity of a local hospital with access to broader educational, professional and wellbeing resources.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this emergency animal hospital! From the moment I walked in, I was incredibly nervous about my furbaby Athena, but the staff immediately put me at ease with their kindness and professionalism – Tiffany P – Google Review
About this role
This is a full-time permanent opportunity for a board-eligible or board-certified Veterinary Dermatologist who wants to practise within a well-connected referral hospital and contribute meaningfully to its wider specialty team.
You will manage a diverse dermatology caseload referred by veterinarians across Ottawa and the surrounding region. You will have the autonomy to apply your specialist expertise while being able to consult and collaborate across disciplines when patients present with complex or overlapping clinical needs.
Clear communication will be central to your role. You will build trusted relationships with referring veterinarians, guide clients through diagnostic and treatment decisions, and help create confidence around the ongoing management of dermatological conditions.
There is also scope to contribute beyond your own caseload by sharing knowledge and helping train and mentor interns and veterinary technicians.
About you
You will bring both specialist capability and a collaborative approach to the hospital. You communicate clearly, remain composed when managing complex cases and value the contribution of colleagues across every part of the clinical team.
You will also bring:
- A thoughtful, team-oriented approach to multidisciplinary medicine
- Strong diagnostic reasoning and sound clinical judgement
- The ability to build trust with clients and referring veterinarians
- Well-developed organisation and the ability to remain focused under pressure
- An interest in mentoring interns and veterinary technicians
- A DVM degree or equivalent that enables you to practise in Canada
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario
- Board eligibility or board certification through the ACVD
