About us
Glade Spring Veterinary Clinic is a community-focused, privately owned small animal veterinary practice based in Glade Spring, Virginia, serving pets and their families across the surrounding region. We are nestled in the beautiful mountains of southwest Virginia near historic Abingdon, VA. We are centrally located between two amazing vet schools: Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA and University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.
Our clinic provides general veterinary medicine, preventative care, and treatment services in a friendly, small town setting. Team members work closely with clients to promote animal health and well-being through education and compassionate care. The environment is collaborative and patient-centered, offering veterinarians the opportunity to build lasting relationships with clients and their pets. We firmly believe that our patients are a deeply loved family member and strive to provide optimum patient care with the animals’ needs and well-being as our top priority.
We are currently a small, home-town veterinary clinic that employees two veterinarians and we are quickly growing and hoping to expand. Despite being a smaller, privately owned practice we have a state-of-the-art in-house laboratory with the ability to run most any test you need. We also have digital x-rays, a vast pharmacy, and a well trained staff including certified assistants and a licensed veterinary technician with 20 years experience.

About this role
This is a full-time, on-site veterinarian role in Glade Spring, VA. You will perform examinations, diagnose illnesses and injuries, develop treatment plans, and provide routine preventive care such as vaccinations, and wellness checks. Daily responsibilities includer performing surgical procedures, prescribing medications, interpreting lab results and diagnostic imaging, and maintaining accurate medical records.
The role also involves communicating clearly with pet owners about diagnoses, treatment options, and home care while collaborating with veterinary technicians, assistants and support staff to ensure high-quality patient care and a smooth clinic work flow. You will help uphold clinic standards, support a safe and clean clinical environment, and participate in ongoing professional development.
Our current practice owner hopes to retire by 2030 so there is an opportunity to purchase this practice and fulfill dreams of owning your very own veterinary practice!
About you
Glade Spring Veterinary Clinic has been a community staple since 1999. Our practice owner, Dr. Deborah Wood, purchased this practice in 2018 after being an associate veterinarian in the clinic since 2006. We currently have an amazing second veterinarian, Dr. Hope Barham and a licensed vet tech of 25 years, Angela Greer Collins. We are a fast paced, rapidly growing clinic that can no longer keep up with community demands!
We are eager to quickly find an incredible veterinarian to join our team! While we would prefer a vet with vast experience we are also open to taking on a new graduate.
After dedicating her life to optimal patient care for the last 33 years, Dr. Wood is looking toward a future retirement in the next 5 years. This affords the option for a veterinarian on staff to purchase the practice and make it their own!

Glade Spring, Virginia is a small home town in a rural setting of southwest Virginia. We are located within 90 minutes of both Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and University of Tennessee Veterinary School. We are within 30 minutes of Bristol, VA/TN and 15 minutes from historic Abingdon, VA. Outdoor enthusiasts love the area for activities available year round. We are located within 20 minutes of the Appalachian Trail and the Virginia Creeper Trail.
Being in a small town area gives you the opportunity to raise a family in a safe environment with well established schools and a true sense of community.
Our offer
Salary will be determined and based on experience. We offer a uniform allowance, paid sick/personal and vacation time after a 90 day probationary period, $500 for continuing education, a retirement plan and possible health insurance.
